As Founder of the American Arab Civil Rights League, I am honored to be a part of a dynamic and accomplished Board of Directors that is dedicated to civil rights advocacy and strives to keep our mission alive. Under their leadership, the ACRL continues to advocate for the preservation and restoration of our fundamental civil liberties while supporting policies that reflect our core values and principles of patriotic Americans. The inescapable truth is that Arab- American communities across the nation have suffered at the hands of the President, elected officials, law enforcement, and by their own neighbors. Arab Americans continue to be subject to increased discrimination, scrutiny, hate, and bigotry. The ACRL was formed to tackle these challenges directly. Our time for urgent action and unity is always now. In this election year, we must be vigilant and stand up for the most vulnerable among us. The political climate in our country is at a crucial point and we must make our voices heard.

Learn Our History

In the wake of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and the subsequent surge in Islamophobia and discrimination against Arab Americans, a group of passionate individuals came together with a common goal: to defend the civil rights and liberties of their community. This collective determination gave birth to the Arab American Civil Rights League (ACRL) in 2011.

Nabih H. Ayad, the esteemed founder of ACRL, vividly recalls the turbulent times that prompted the organization's inception. "In the aftermath of 9/11, our community faced unprecedented challenges," he shares. "There was a palpable fear and hostility towards Arab Americans, fueled by misconceptions and prejudice. It was evident that we needed a unified voice to advocate for our rights and combat discrimination."

Over the years, ACRL has evolved into a beacon of hope and resilience for the Arab American community. From landmark legal victories to grassroots mobilization efforts, ACRL has left an indelible mark on the landscape of civil rights advocacy. Today, as we reflect on our journey, we honor the tireless dedication and perseverance of those who laid the foundation for ACRL and continue to uphold its mission.

As we commemorate our history and celebrate our achievements, ACRL remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing justice, equality, and dignity for all Arab Americans. Together, we stand united against adversity, empowered by the belief that every individual deserves to live free from discrimination and prejudice. The ACRL is committed to protecting the civil rights of Arab Americans through education and advocacy. The organization, which is based out of Dearborn, Michigan, works to build coalitions, promote understanding and cooperation and combat negative stereotypes.
