February marks the start of Black History Month, a federally recognized celebration of the contributions African Americans have made to this country and a time to reflect on the continued struggle for racial justice.
Black History Month has become one of the most celebrated cultural heritage months on the calendar. National and local events and online celebrations will take place throughout the month to focus attention on Black people's achievements and history.
Since 1976, the US has marked the contributions of Black people and celebrated the history and culture of the Black experience in America every February. This month is an opportunity to reconcile with the past, pave the way for a more just future, and celebrate all the amazing figures who have taken their place in the annals of Black History.
ACRL extends our condolences to the victims and families who have been affected by the earthquake in Syria and Turkey. We stand with the people that have lost loved ones, who have been injured and who have lost their homes and businesses. We wish those injured a speedy recovery. Our prayers to all.
